Downtown Disney Fun

Welcome to those of you joining me from Ashley Aspires and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the final stop on our Magical Blogorail.

This month's topic: Fun Outside of the Disney Parks

Although I sometimes hate the thought of leaving the parks during the day (I have to maximize my magical day!), I do really enjoy hanging out in Downtown Disney.  Downtown Disney at the Disneyland Resort is not quite as large as it's counterpart at Walt Disney World, however, it is home to some fabulous restaurants and stores.

Shopping
The World of Disney is the largest Disney store and a great place to find last minute souvenirs.  My favorite section is the home decor area because I love decorating the house with Disney magic.

Disney Vault 28 is a hip store that has contemporary Disney merchandise.  Think Dooney & Bourke bags, scarves, Harvey's bags, clothing, and jewelry.

D Street is a favorite of my husband's because they have a ton of Vinylmations, some that you can't even find inside the parks!  They also have a lot of Star Wars and Marvel merch inside.

Other shops include:
Apricot Lane
Build-A-Bear
The LEGO Store
LittleMissMatched
Studio Disney 365
WonderGround Gallery
and more!

Shopping Experiences
Not really sure what to call this section, but there are a bunch of shops that are centered around creating an experience.

-Build a Bear Factory (make your own stuffed animal)
-RIDEMAKERZ (build toy race cars)
-Studio Disney 365 (think Bibbidi Boppidi Boutique)

Restaurants
These are my tow favorite eats at DTD.
Tortilla Joe's is a Mexican restaurant and the food is super fresh.  Table-side guacamole, piping fajitas, yummy burritos and my favorite, deep-fried ice cream!

Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen has got a lot of southern comfort food.  You can also order beignets here if you missed your chance to get them at Disneyland.  They are standard beignets (rectangles) and taste good but I still prefer Mickey-shaped beignets from New Orleans Square.

Other restaurants include:
Catal Restaurant
Earl of Sandwich
ESPN Zone
Rainforest Cafe
House of Blues
Naples Ristorante e Pizzeria
Napolini
Uva Bar
and more!

  1. I know I love WDW's Downtown Disney, but my daughter wants to visit Disneyland's because it has a Build-a-Bear store!

  2. Thanks for the lists. I'll have to start crossing them off one by one. Of course, I think I've been to most of the stores, but there's lots of restaurants to discover!

  3. I have been to Disneyland once, I was in my 20's and one day I swear I will make it back there! Disney Vault 28 sounds like our Tren-D... When I get to Disneyland's Downtown Disney- I will head straight for Disney Vault 28! ~Maureen @ Two Moms and a Mouse

  4. I'm visiting Disneyland for the first time ever THIS FRIDAY!! Yup - flying to LA Thursday night! This is a great list of things to check out while I'm here, even though it's only for 3 days. I heard Napolini was similar to Via Napoli at Epcot (same owners) so was tempted, but tableside guac? yum!! Now - would you do Ralph Brennans or eat inside DLR at Cafe Orleans/Blue Bayou?

    1. Hmm...that's a tough one! For the food, I'd go with Ralph Brennan's. For the experience, I'd go with Blue Bayou. It's such a beautiful restaurant and so unique to the DLR. I hope you have a WONDERFUL trip!! Can't wait to hear all about it!

  5. I'm still crossing my fingers and hoping that I get a trip to Disneyland one of these days. Of course, I LOVE Walt Disney World, but I'd like to say that I at least got to visit Walt's original park once in my lifetime!

  6. I loved visiting Disneyland's Downtown Disney on our trip. It's so different from the one at Walt Disney World and I loved that it was so easy to get to. The WonderGround Gallery was really cool and ended up being my favorite spot. :)

  8. I will admit that we are don't often travel to Downtown Disney in Orlando as much as we used to- I'm just not keen on shopping. BUT, Downtown Disney District is different. Because we HAVE to go past all those shops on our way to the parks, (Apricot Lane is my favorite), it seems harmless! And Uva Bar? My 21 yo and I have spent many a post-park evening here. He loves the beer flight!!

  10. We visited Disneyland in 2010 and enjoyed DTD! You're right, it's not quite as big as WDWs, but it is still a great shopping and entertainment area!
